This post is part of a series for Autism Acceptance Month in which I will be exploring various ideas and subjects relating to autism and being autistic.

Sometimes, talking is easy

Words fall from lips with grace

A mind waxes poetic about life

Words gliding from mind to mouth

Sometimes, talking is hard

Words refuse to start unprompted

Waiting for someone else to ask

A block between mind and mouth

Sometimes, talking is so difficult

Graceful words slip through fingers

Leaving only nothing words

And the words unspoken

Sometimes, talking is impossible

Words scream within the mind

Laying stagnant, begging for release

Refusing to be heard

Talking is such a variable thing

For those with autistic brains

Coming and going like the tide

Varying with the flow of stress

Talking can be such a difficult thing

For those with a disconnect

Separating mind from mouth

A battle that must be fought

Yet words can flow through fingers

Typing that which cannot be spoken

Or signing words in graceful arcs

Or stimming out emotion to be read

Communication comes in many forms

From mouth words to typed words

From signing to behavior

We communicate in many ways

Sometimes, talking is easy

Sometimes, talking is hard

Sometimes, talking is impossible

By communication is always there
