This post is part of a series for Autism Acceptance Month in which I will be exploring various ideas and subjects relating to autism and being autistic.

We are the ones who bounce and flap

The ones whose bodies create symphonies

Beautiful movements flowing like melodies

Once upon a time, not so long ago

We were the changelings, the stolen children

Myths that live on today of the missing child

Despite these myths and harm they cause

We soldier on, making our own paths

Creating lives of beautiful diversity

Even now we must fight for our rights

Rights to exist, rights to just be

Rights to be our authentic selves

Regardless, we live our own lives

Filled with joyous wonder with the world around

And unique perspectives of all that is

For we have brains that function differently

In some ways that can make life harder

But in many ways that add wonder and joy

Understanding is what we ask of you

For you to accept us just as we are

All our quirks and different ways of being

Less is not what different means

Our differences do not subtract our value

We are bodies creating symphonies

Minds finding new ways and different views

People always fighting for our rights to be

People whose minds work in uniquely beautiful ways

We are autistic and we are wonderful
