This poem is part of a series in which I explore old poetry from my school years. The poems capture the same essence as the original with some updated wording and imagery.

Movements in the

Shadows lurking

They’re there

They’re always there

Murmurs in the air

Pale faces, glowing eyes

Slit wrists and necks

“Come join us”

They’re there

They’re always there

Tremulous hands

Racing hearts

Fear

They’re there

They’re always there

“Come join us now

We wait in death

We wait for you

Come join us”

They’re there

They’re always there

Draining blood

Last breath

Even in death

They’re there

They’re always there
